School Age Relationships and Interactions

If you are employed in a state that uses a registry to track professional development hours, you will be able to provide your registry ID (Stars, MOPID, Registry or other ECE ID#) after you have completed the quiz for the course. If you pass the quiz we will report your course completion to the state registry using the registry ID that you provide.

Explore effective strategies for working with school-age children and managing the unique challenges of this age group. Designed for school-age teachers and early childhood educators, this course addresses mixed-age groups, bullying, cliques, positive behavior techniques, disagreements, and big emotions. Participants will learn practical approaches for creating a positive, inclusive environment, guiding behavior, and helping children develop healthy relationships and conflict-resolution skills. Course length – 2.0 hours.

The course helps answer the following questions:

• How do I handle the age difference if I have ages 5-12 in one class?

• How do I deal with bullying and teach the children not to bully?

• How do I avoid cliques and teach the children the dangers of cliques?

• What are “positive behavior techniques” and how can I implement them?

• How do I help the children deal with disagreements and big emotions?

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:

• Select at least three age-appropriate strategies or activities for supporting mixed-age groups in a school-age program with 80% accuracy on the course assessment.

• Apply at least three positive-discipline strategies that help children manage disagreements and strong emotions.

• Identify at least three strategies for preventing bullying and cliques while promoting positive social skills.
