Math with Preschoolers

If you are employed in a state that uses a registry to track professional development hours, you will be able to provide your registry ID (Stars, MOPID, Registry or other ECE ID#) after you have completed the quiz for the course. If you pass the quiz we will report your course completion to the state registry using the registry ID that you provide.

Discover effective, developmentally appropriate strategies for teaching math to preschool children and building a strong foundation for future learning. Designed for early childhood educators, this course explores number sense, counting, addition and subtraction, data, measurement, patterns, shapes, and positional words. Through practical examples and engaging activities, participants will learn how to make math fun, meaningful, and confidence-building while preparing children for success in elementary school. Course length – 2.0 hours.

The course helps answer the following questions:

• How can I help the children have a positive attitude towards math?

• How can I teach children to really grasp the concept of numbers and counting?

• Are preschoolers ready for concepts of addition and subtraction?

• How can I help children understand what data is?

• What are some fun ways to teach them about measuring?

• Are pattern and shapes important to teach preschool children?

• What are positional words and how do I teach them?

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:

• Identify at least three benefits of teaching math concepts to preschool children with 80% accuracy on the course assessment.

• Select at least three strategies that help preschool children develop a positive attitude toward math.

• Develop a learning activity that uses at least three developmentally appropriate methods to teach a preschool math concept.
