If you are employed in a state that uses a registry to track professional development hours, you will be able to provide your registry ID (Stars, MOPID, Registry or other ECE ID#) after you have completed the quiz for the course. If you pass the quiz we will report your course completion to the state registry using the registry ID that you provide.

Explore engaging ways to introduce science and encourage curiosity in preschool and school-age children. Designed for early childhood educators and teachers, this course examines the importance of science education, age-appropriate teaching methods, and hands-on learning experiences. Participants will learn how to incorporate field trips, sensory tables and bins, and homemade sensory tools into classroom activities, helping children explore, experiment, ask questions, and develop a lasting interest in science. Course length – 2.0 hours.

This course helps answer the following questions:

• Why is it important to teach science to preschoolers and school age?

• What are some methods for teaching science to these ages?

• How can I implement field trip experiences into lessons in the classroom?

• What are some ways to use my sensory table/bin with this age group?

• What are some recipes for making sensory tools for this age group?

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:

• Identify at least three benefits of teaching science to preschool and school-age children with 80% accuracy on the course assessment.

• Select at least three age-appropriate strategies for engaging children in science activities.

• Develop a field-trip plan that includes at least three connections to classroom science learning.
