Explore the importance of early childhood literacy and learn how to create a language-rich classroom that encourages reading throughout the day. Designed for early childhood professionals, this self-paced course examines the value of literacy for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, the role of diverse literature, current literacy research, and practical strategies for surrounding children with meaningful print. Participants will gain ideas they can immediately implement to foster early language and literacy development. Course length – 2.5 hours.

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:

• Identify key statistics related to the representation of Black and Brown characters in children’s books with 80% accuracy on the course assessment.

• Define early literacy and identify at least three ways it supports children’s development.

• Select at least three strategies for incorporating inclusive literacy experiences throughout the classroom.
