If you are employed in a state that uses a registry to track professional development hours, you will be able to provide your registry ID (Stars, MOPID, Registry or other ECE ID#) after you have completed the quiz for the course. If you pass the quiz we will report your course completion to the state registry using the registry ID that you provide.
Discover how to use positive redirection to guide children’s behavior while reducing the need to say “no.” Designed for early childhood professionals, this self-paced course explores the purpose and types of redirection, how redirection supports emotional regulation, and strategies for preventing power struggles and challenging behaviors. Participants will learn practical, brain-aligned techniques they can immediately implement to help children feel more successful, confident, and in control of their actions. Course length – 2.0 hours.
The course will help answer questions like these:
  • What is redirection?
  • What are the types of redirection?
  • How can I use redirection to avoid using the word “no” so much?
  • How can redirection help with challenging behaviors?
  • How can redirection help children feel less frustrated and more in control?

 

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:
  • Explain why overusing the word “no” can reduce its effectiveness and identify at least three alternatives with 80% accuracy on the course assessment.
  • Select and apply appropriate redirection strategies, including a three-step redirection model, during scenario-based activities.
  • Develop a personalized redirection toolkit that includes at least five techniques for reducing power struggles and encouraging positive behavior.
