If you are employed in a state that uses a registry to track professional development hours, you will be able to provide your registry ID (Stars, MOPID, Registry or other ECE ID#) after you have completed the quiz for the course. If you pass the quiz we will report your course completion to the state registry using the registry ID that you provide.
This is an important course for anyone that works in childcare and has outdoor time with their children. Outdoor time is very important, and the children love it but it’s vital to be knowledgeable about sun safety from infancy on. Course length – 1.5 hours.
This course will help answer the following questions:
  • What measures can I take to keep the children safe?
  • What are the most dangerous times of day to be in direct sunlight?
  • What is the minimum SPF sunscreen that I should ask parents/guardians to bring in?
  • Is spray sunscreen as good as lotion?
  • Is sunscreen safe for infants?
  • What kinds of hats are best for sun safety?
  • What ages should use sunglasses?
Participants who successfully complete this course will:
  • Understand the importance of sun safety measures for young children.
  • Know the difference between UVA and UVB rays and why it matters.
  • Learn what SPF is and what level is necessary for children’s protection.
  • Understand how to use hats, sunglasses, and clothing for sun protection.
