If you are employed in a state that uses a registry to track professional development hours, you will be able to provide your registry ID (Stars, MOPID, Registry or other ECE ID#) after you have completed the quiz for the course. If you pass the quiz we will report your course completion to the state registry using the registry ID that you provide.

Explore how infants develop large and small motor skills during their first year of life. Designed for infant teachers and early childhood educators, this course examines motor development, developmental milestones, and how premature birth may affect the timing of those milestones. Through practical information and reflection, participants will learn what skills to expect, how development progresses throughout the first year, and how to better support each infant’s individual growth. Course length – 1.5 hours.

The course helps answer the following questions:

• What are the motor skills infants will be working on?

• What is the difference between large and small motor skills?

• What milestones will babies develop every few months during the first year?

• How will premature birth affect reaching those milestones?

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:

• Distinguish between gross- and fine-motor skills with 80% accuracy on the course assessment.

• Identify at least three developmental motor milestones and explain how milestone tracking supports early identification and intervention.

• Select at least three developmentally appropriate strategies for promoting successful tummy-time experiences.
