Understand anger in young children by learning practical strategies to recognize, respond to, and support healthy emotional development. Designed for early childhood professionals, this self-paced course explores the differences between tantrums and meltdowns, developmental stages of anger, common triggers, and the impact of adult responses. Through practical examples and engaging activities, participants will gain the knowledge and confidence to teach healthy coping skills, create supportive classroom environments, and partner effectively with families.  Course length – 2.5 hours.
The course will help answer the following questions:
  • What is anger?
  • What is the difference between a tantrum and a meltdown?
  • What are the developmental stages of anger?
  • What are common triggers for anger in young children?
  • What impact do adult responses have on children’s anger?
  • How can I create a supportive environment? What activities can I do to help children with anger?

 

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:
  • Identify at least three common triggers or developmental factors that may contribute to anger in young children with 80% accuracy on the course assessment.
  • Select at least three proactive or responsive strategies for managing children’s angry outbursts.
  • Develop an activity that expands children’s emotional vocabulary and teaches at least three healthy coping strategies for managing anger.
