If you are employed in a state that uses a registry to track professional development hours, you will be able to provide your registry ID (Stars, MOPID, Registry or other ECE ID#) after you have completed the quiz for the course. Strengthen professional relationships by developing the communication, empathy, and collaboration skills needed to work effectively with co-workers, managers, and families. Designed for early childhood professionals, this self-paced course explores strategies for building positive workplace relationships, resolving conflict, and fostering productive partnerships with children’s families. Through practical examples and real-world situations, participants will gain the knowledge and confidence to create respectful, supportive relationships that benefit children, families, and the entire program. Course length – 3.0 hours.
The course will help answer the following questions:
  • What are some keys to good communication?
  • How can I develop and show empathy?
  • How can I do my part to develop positive relationships with my co-workers?
  • What should I do if I have a difficult relationship with a co-worker?
  • How can I do my part to develop a positive relationship with my manager?
  • What should I do if I have a difficult relationship with my manager?
  • How can I do my part to develop positive relationships with the children’s family members?
  • What should I do if I’m having difficulty with the family member of a child in my care?

 

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:
  • Identify at least three characteristics of respectful and effective professional communication with 80% accuracy on the course assessment.
  • Select at least three communication strategies that promote active listening, clarity, and mutual understanding.
  • Apply appropriate conflict-resolution strategies to a challenging interaction with a coworker or member of management.
  • Develop a plan for a difficult family conversation that includes preparation, respectful communication, and follow-up.

Course Content
