
All About Sensory
If you are employed in a state that uses a registry to track professional development hours, you will be able to provide your registry ID (Stars, MOPID, Registry or other ECE ID#) after you have completed the quiz for the course. If you pass the quiz we will report your course completion to the state registry using the registry ID that you provide.
Explore how eight senses influence children’s development and learning in this course designed for early childhood educators. Through engaging readings, videos, reflection activities, case studies, and practical planning exercises, participants will examine sensory development, recognize common signs of sensory processing challenges, explore family perspectives, and discover strategies to support children in inclusive learning environments. Participants will also gain hands-on ideas for teaching about the senses and develop practical plans and accommodations that promote every child’s success. Course length – 4.0 hours.

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:

Identify and describe eight senses and explain the role each plays in children’s development by correctly completing a course assessment with at least 80% accuracy.

Explain the basic principles of sensory processing and describe at least three ways sensory processing influences children’s learning, behavior, and participation in early childhood settings.

Recognize and identify at least five common indicators of sensory processing challenges by accurately analyzing case studies or scenario-based activities included in the course.

Develop an individualized support plan that includes at least three evidence-based strategies or environmental accommodations to promote the success of a child with sensory processing challenges in an early childhood classroom.

Evaluate family perspectives on sensory processing by identifying at least three key insights or practices shared by caregivers and describing how those insights can strengthen partnerships and improve support for children with sensory processing differences.
