“A Book Can Be A Lesson Plan” is a course about early childhood literacy and ways to incorporate it into all teaching areas. All teachers have their favorite methods of making lesson plans and some are dictated by their centers. This course is about one great way! Course length – 2.0 hours.
This course helps answer the following questions:
  • Why is reading to children important?
  • How early should we start reading out loud to children?
  • Is it necessary to have a lesson plan?
  • How important is diversity in literature?
  • How do you take a single book and build a lesson plan?
There are no prerequisites for this course. 
Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to”
  • Identify at least three components of a children’s book that can be used to support lesson planning (e.g., theme, vocabulary, illustrations).
  • Explain how a single children’s book can be used to address at least two developmental domains (e.g., language, social-emotional, cognitive).
  • Select developmentally appropriate follow-up activities based on a chosen book for a specific age group.
