If you are employed in a state that uses a registry to track professional development hours, you will be able to provide your registry ID (Stars, MOPID, Registry or other ECE ID#) after you have completed the quiz for the course. If you pass the quiz we will report your course completion to the state registry using the registry ID that you provide.

Explore epilepsy in early childhood and learn practical strategies for supporting children with epilepsy in childcare and preschool settings. Designed for early childhood professionals, this self-paced course explains epilepsy, common seizure types and triggers, seizure response procedures, and effective communication with families. Through engaging lessons and real-world examples, participants will build the knowledge and confidence needed to recognize seizures, respond appropriately, and create a safe, supportive environment for every child. Course length – 2.0 hours.

• What are the symptoms of Epilepsy?

• What are the types of seizures and what do they look like?

• What are the common triggers for a seizure?

• How can I help a child who is having a seizure.

• What is the best way to communicate with the child’s family to make a plan for their care?

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:

• Define epilepsy and identify at least three common seizure symptoms with 80% accuracy on the course assessment.

• Identify the four seizure types presented in the course and at least two factors that may trigger seizures.

• Select the correct steps for safely assisting and protecting a child experiencing a seizure in a course-based scenario.
