What’s happening inside a child’s brain during those powerful early years? In this engaging course, early childhood educators will explore the fascinating world of brain development from birth to age 6. You’ll learn how young children build neural pathways through movement, sensory exploration, and meaningful relationships – and how your daily interactions and environments shape that growth. Whether you’re new to the ECE field or a seasoned guide, you’ll leave with renewed insight into how your work supports the most important job in the world: building a healthy, capable brain. Course length – 1.5 hours.
The course answers the following questions:
  • How do early life experiences, such as positive relationships or chronic stress, influence the way a child’s brain develops?
  • What role does play serve in supporting healthy brain growth and learning during the first five years of life?
  • Why is the “serve and return” interaction between adults and children critical for cognitive, social, and emotional development?
  • How can early childhood professionals create an environment that supports both the physical and emotional aspects of brain development?
Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:
  • Understand the key stages of early brain development
  • Apply hands-on learning to support cognitive growth
  • Use principles to teach and support self-regulation, and concentration
  • Create environments that truly support whole-child development
