Strengthen your understanding of gross and fine motor development in young children and learn how to support these essential skills through developmentally appropriate activities. Designed for early childhood professionals, this self-paced course explores motor milestones, muscle development, and strategies for encouraging physical growth from infancy through school age. Through practical examples and age-specific activities, participants will gain the knowledge and confidence to recognize developmental progress, identify concerns, and promote lifelong learning through movement.  Course length – 3.0 hours.
The course answers the following questions:
  • What is the difference between fine motor and gross motor?
  • What is the relationship between muscle strength and motor skill development?
  • How does the development of motor skills affect learning in young children?
  • What are typical milestones for MY children’s age group?
  • What should I do if my children aren’t meeting these milestones?
  • What are some activities I can do with MY age group to help build these skills?

 

Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to:
  • Complete an objective observation of a child’s gross- and fine-motor skills and identify at least one area for continued development or additional support.
  • Develop a plan that includes at least three age-appropriate materials or activities for strengthening children’s gross- and fine-motor skills.
  • Explain the relationship between muscle strength and motor development and identify at least two activities that support both areas, with 80% accuracy on the course assessment.
